Salad Money’s Board are an experienced group who are driven by the social aspects of the business.
Tim is a seasoned entrepreneur with a track record of building technology businesses. Following an early career in property management, Tim created an online tenant and candidate verification platform which eventually captured 5% of the UK tenant referencing market. Subsequently Tim developed innovative software utilising consumer datasets for Experian, Big Issue Invest and Barbon Insurance, a Carlyle-backed investee company. Tim continues to be a passionate proponent for appropriate and affordable lending, and serves as a non-executive director of Responsible Finance, the national membership body for providers of responsible finance.
Emmett has over twenty years’ experience working in consumer credit principally serving the credit excluded within a start-up or innovation environment. He has risk management, commercial and regulatory knowledge encompassing loans, credit cards and retail finance. Previous roles include Senior Credit Risk Manager at Vanquis, Head of Credit Risk at Close Brothers Retail Finance (acquired by Klarna in 2017) and Head of Personal Loans at NewDay. He holds a MSc from Lancaster University and a BSc from Southampton University.
Phillip has twenty years’ experience working in high-growth, FCA-regulated businesses. He has broad financial services knowledge encompassing private credit, private equity and venture capital. Previous roles include Head of Funds at Funding Circle and Finance Director at Pemberton Asset Management. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and holds a MA from Oxford University.
Bernard is Chief Data Officer and brings extensive experience in building decision science risk models, joining Salad Money after nearly eight years with Funding Circle UK where he was Global Head of Decision Science. His career has included stints in France, the USA and the UK. After studying engineering in Paris, de Barbeyrac moved to Capital One where he became a Senior Risk Analyst.
Terry has over 30 years’ experience in delivering enterprise level software applications. For the last 20 years he has owned a bespoke software development company and managed numerous high profile I.T. projects such as Cable & Wireless’s European billing system, FedEx’s UK web presence, a booking system for Clear Channel’s out-of-home digital advertising screens and for the last 5 years has helped design and build the Salad Money application platform. A Microsoft specialist, he has held most of their premium qualifications over the years – Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and Microsoft Certified Database Administrator and has been instrumental in moving Salad to a serverless infrastructure based on the Microsoft Azure platform.
Tim worked for Nationwide Building Society for 20 years, the last 10 as CEO. During this period he initiated and oversaw a whole range of initiatives aimed at making both personal financial services and house purchase easier for members on low incomes. Subsequently he was Director General of the Institute of Directors, and then Chair of several organisations including public companies, Royal London Insurance (the largest mutual insurer), Investors in People, the Higher Education Funding Council for England, and Homerton University Hospital NHS Trust. As well as chairing Salad Finance, he is currently involved in a range of activities with a social purpose.
John is the Managing Director of Social Business Development. Social Business Development works across the public/private and social economy sectors to establish value-led partnerships that can deliver scale, sustainability, and improved social impact in the UK. John has worked in the Social Business sector for over twenty years creating and growing social businesses. He was for seven years a director at The Big Issue Group, a member of Big issue Invest’s investment committees and led on the development of The Rental Exchange initiative with Experian. John is a non-executive director of several social businesses and charities across the UK and holds advisory roles on several FinTech organisations. John is passionate about providing opportunities and support to areas of society that are being under-served by current and appropriate public services.
Paul is an Executive Vice President with the Capgemini Group where he has undertaken various leadership roles including Business Unit CEO, Board General Secretary, Global Programme Leadership, Corporate Development and Head of Commercial & Risk. He also represents Capgemini on a number of industry bodies, including the Confederation of British Industry and the French Chamber of Commerce in the UK. Paul has also held Non-Executive Director positions with Working Links Ltd, helping people into employment to change their lives and create new futures and with The Big Issue, aiming to eradicate poverty.
Alex Marsh has extensive leadership and board experience in the banking, payments and fintech sectors, with a portfolio spanning board advisory, strategy consulting and NED roles. He is currently serving as an independent non-executive director for the Centre for Finance, Innovation and Technology (CFIT) with the mission to champion fintech in the UK, building on his previous role as the UK CEO of Klarna where he oversaw growth to in excess of 18 million consumers. Prior to this he spent 10 years in leadership roles at Close Brothers, the UK merchant banking group, across SME and consumer lending. Alex is a Chartered Accountant and has a strong commitment to social impact, having co-founded Charterpath to help connect non-profits with volunteer financial skills, and acting as an industry advisor to The 93% Club, a charity levelling the playing field for young people from state school backgrounds.
Rupert has over two decades working in FCA regulated business. His experience covers legal and regulatory, compliance, risk management, governance, and external affairs primarily within the consumer lending sector. He was General Counsel, Board Member and Consumer Duty Champion at Capital One UK. He is a solicitor and holds and an MBA from Imperial College London. He is also a Non-Executive Direct of Cowes Harbour, a trust port on the Isle of Wight.
Oversight Board
The Oversight Board was established by Salad Money with the purpose of ensuring that everything Salad Money does is based around its social impact. By creating this independent board Salad Money can ensure social impact is at the forefront of everything we do.
Lord Iain McNicol of West Kilbride is a British Labour politician and trade unionist. He is a Labour member of the House of Lords having been introduced in July 2018. He is a life Baron. Iain served as the General Secretary of the Labour Party from 2011-18, moving from the position as National Political Officer of the GMB Union. He has a long history of organising in both Labour and the trade union movement. He is also on the Board of the National Citizen Service (NCS).
Baroness Evans of Bowes Park is a Conservative member of the House of Lords. She was appointed as a life peer in October 2014. Natalie was Leader of the House of Lords and a member of the UK Government's Cabinet between 2016 and 2022 - the longest serving leader for 70 years. Between 2015 and 2016 she was a junior Government minister in the Department of Education, Department for Work and Pensions and the Ministry of Justice. Before entering the Lords, Natalie held a variety of senior positions including CEO of the New Schools Network, Deputy Director of Policy Exchange and Head of Policy at the British Chamber of Commerce.

As one of the Customer Account Managers and quality assurance lead at Salad, Becca brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her role. Hailing from the north, Becca's warm demeanour and unwavering commitment have made her an integral part of the team. Outside of the office, Becca shares her home with a charming feline companion named Mr. Pudge, whose lazy antics never fail to bring joy to her day. Known for her organisational prowess and approachable nature, Becca is always ready to lend a helping hand to both colleagues and clients alike. In addition to her daily contributions, Becca takes on the crucial responsibility of running quality assurance for all customer account managers, ensuring that our standards of excellence are consistently met and exceeded.
Ollie’s role at Salad Money is to engage with affiliates and Trusts across the UK developing relationships helping deliver our product across the UK. In his spare time, Ollie is an avid musician, having previously studied Bass Guitar at degree level, and is particularly fond of playing progressive metal. He also enjoys craft beer and video games.
Jane dedicated 22 years to the software industry, holding various management roles throughout her career, demonstrating multitasking abilities both in her personal and professional life. In pursuit of a better work-life balance Jane started on a journey to retrain in Sports Massage Therapy running a successful self-employed practice for 10 years. This period allowed her to prioritise her family and enhance her skills in client care and service delivery. After seeing her 3 children grow to adults Jane decided to return full-time employment and found a perfect fit at Salad Money. She is deeply passionate about the company's mission to provide financial assistance to those in need, and its commitment to prioritising people resonates with her personal values. Outside of work, Jane enjoys unwinding by spending time with her friends and her dog and indulging in some Netflix.
Samantha is one of our dedicated Customer Account Managers, known for her support, helpful nature, and friendly demeanour. Beyond the office, she finds joy in the simple pleasures of cooking delightful meals, nurturing her garden, and spending time with her loved ones—including her furry friends.
Dan is our Head of Marketing, responsible for advertising, content management, internal and external stakeholder comms and number of other elements within the business. When he’s not thinking about all things Salad, you can usually find Dan on the rugby pitch or playing terribly on the golf course.
Anashia is a dedicated member of the Customer Account Management Team, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to the business. With a degree in Sociology from Oxford Brookes University, Anashia six years’ experience in customer service, where her passion for understanding human behaviour shines through. Residing in Brighton, Anashia enjoys exploring the local gems and the vast world of books during her spare moments. Passionate about helping others, Anashia is committed to delivering exceptional service and fostering positive relationships with both customers and colleagues.
Emily is our dedicated Customer Account Manager who thrives in being part of our friendly team. Beyond her professional prowess, Emily is an avid music enthusiast and a devoted dog lover, often enjoying quality time with her beloved pups or immersing herself in her favourite tunes. Providing 6 years of experience alongside her warmth and enthusiasm, she is an integral part of our company values and culture.
Jessica has had over 6 years of experience working in customer service and almost 2 years in the finance industry. This includes various retail roles and personal and SME business banking, specialising in vulnerable customers. In her spare time, Jessica has the best time with her (almost) 4 year old son and enjoys living by the sea!
Ryan joined Salad Money in August 2023, officially starting his professional career after graduating with a MSc in Economics and Finance from the University of York. He will soon begin studying for the CIMA to continue to develop his skills and career whilst at Salad Money. When he is not at work, he can be found playing darts or down at a bouldering gym.
Encee is a vibrant member of our Customer Account Management Team at Salad, bringing a unique blend of skills and passions to the table, with over three years of experience in the company. With a background in market research and customer service, Encee is a natural people person, adept at understanding and meeting the needs of others. Encee has a degree in performing arts, with a hugely diverse experience set and loves the collaborative nature that defines the business.
Thomas is a Team Leader within the Customer Account Management Team and has over 10 years’ experience managing teams across a variety of sectors such as Entertainment, Marketing, Recruitment and HR. He studied Music and Music Technology at the University of Chichester and in his spare time plays drums for a few local bands and is an enthusiastic amateur bread-baker. Thomas has recently also gained a level 2 qualification in bench joinery and hopes to one day turn his hand to furniture making.
